Podcast S4 #052 Zero Risk

‘I owe my life to him… I’ve blessed Tony’s name ever since’

– John Simpson BBC World Affairs Editor
Tony Loughran

Overview

The next podcast is out Tuesday 28 November 2023. The guest is Tony Loughran, former Royal Navy commando medic and Security and Risk Management professional with over 30 years experience in conflict zones. He runs his own company Zero Risk International and is now a published author.

The tales of war and terrorism that flood our screens are often brought to us by courageous journalists risking their lives. Tony’s pivotal career shift occurred when he assumed responsibility for safety and security at the BBC. During his 14 years there he revolutionized protective equipment and strategies for foreign correspondents, introducing groundbreaking training that has saved countless lives across hostile environments worldwide.

Transitioning to a new chapter in Australia, he founded ZeroRisk International, a security consultancy firm. His work remains inherently challenging, from investigating the deaths of renowned journalists to narrowly escaping capture in Kabul. Noteworthy moments include advising media during the Lindt Café siege and orchestrating evacuations from Afghanistan as the Taliban regained control.
